We've moved!

Due to that great spring-cleaning phenomenon, I've relocated to a NEW BLOG! Check out ktshy.blogspot.com for new kt-updates (as well as a few oldies put up for portfolio reasons). I'll keep this one open for archives and the like, but no longer shall I update here! Thanks for keeping track of me!
See ya! :)

Sweatin' to the Oldies

Aaaaargh! It's my old 2nd year lip sync assignment! The animation's pretty painful, but overall it still makes me giggle, Shagster has such great voice acting talent. Be sure to CRANK THE VOLUME (it seemed pretty quiet on my computer, is all.)

Also, I did a little bit of blog organizing with the labels. If you look to the right, there's a "My Art" list, which makes it super easy to navigate through my work.

Hahaha! Our Girlamatic Gammiversary crossover was tagged on Journalista: The comics journal weblog, and guess who's drawing was used as a thumbnail? *blush* Yes, this is one of the (more absurd lookin') panels of the cross-over comic I did for Traci Spencer's Compass.
You can see the quick snippet article in the journal's April 4th edition, located down the page under the "Digital Comics" heading.

Shrub Monkeys #43, #44 and other!

Back from an AWESOME trip to Ottawa, here's a bunch of posts!

New Shrub Monkeys #43 can be seen over at Girlamatic. I don't like posting them here in full because it always gives away the punchline.

(So I go ahead and post in full anyways...) Shrub Monkeys #44 can be full viewed on my deviant art page by clicking: here! I'm running a fun little contest and some super wonderful fans are participating! Check out there entries on my DA journal: here!

OBVIOUSLY I didn't draw this, it's from the Golden Book exibit going on at Disney World. The illustrations are so lovely I wish I could see them in person, but as that is an impossibility at the moment, I can enjoy them through the photographs that Potato Farm Girl has so lovingly displayed on her blog. View them: here!

Creepy Sun

Something for a film project that Shagster is working on. He'll be adding sun rays in post (because my tablet's "gawbage sistah!")

Shagster in Sparta

*click to view the gif in all its glory*

Hey look! Me and Shagster learned how to make animated gifs! This was also a test to see if I could figure out how to do those cool colour desaturations you see in the movies. Meh, I'm learning. Shagster was an ideal candidate for this pic once I found a photo of him in the archives with a massive beard-chin rival only to Gerard Butler's in 300. HA!

ALSO! Here's something stupidly hilarious that a nice commentator at deviantart sent me the link to: http://thisisspartaaa.ytmnd.com/ It actually made me and Shagster teary eyed with wheezy, obnoxious 2am giggles. I love it!

Happy New Year!

Okay, I'm a few days late, but it's still the year of the pig, so it's all good! My mum, sister and I all share the pig as our chinese zodiac, so I'm drawing a little piece with us all as piggies. I'm posting the scan just incase I mess up the inks, because I'm pretty pleased with the way the sketch turned out. :) I loves my girls.

This is madness...

So I got to see an advanced screening of Frank Miller's 300 at the IMAX downtown yesterday, and it was preeeeeeetty sweet! Gory as heck but really stylish! And free! Which makes me feel kind of guilty because I wouldn't have minded paying for that movie (I've wasted enough on some real crap films over the past year, I wouldn't mind endorsing some I actually liked).

Anyhoo, here's a commission I did for Jim. It's pretty wacky cuz he commissioned me to draw my own character-avatar zombified as part of a link page for a comic he's working on.
Shagster was kind enough to inform me that the hands are wonky. DANGIT! I need to practice life drawing!

Snail hat!

A thank you drawing for the fine folks at Deviant Art.

Colour doesn't seem to come easy to me these days. Bernerd suggested some colour theory books a while ago, I think I'll have to pick those off've amazon sometime soon.

Shrub Monkeys #40

Because I'm mega busy at work and pretty behind on commissions, my brother's gone and drawn this week's Shrub Monkey strip for me.

If you click on the title link it'll take you to the larger file on my deviant art page... I usually send the link to girlamatic but I keep having to update the link once a new comic appears and right now I'm super lazy.

Why Andrea is amazing!

This is from a while back, but now that I have the photo I must post it! Andrea suprised me for my birthday by leaving this adorable gift basket at my desk at work. It was full of candy sushi that she made herself! The roll was a brownie, and the "sea weed" and "tamago" (egg) was coloured marzipan. And the little fish eggs were jellie bellies (vanilla and strawberry if I can remember correctly) and stuck on with icing. It was delicious! But barely lasted the day (I just couldn't stop picking at it, it was so good!) Thanks Andrea! :)

Why my brother is awesome

Check it! It's an ad for some upcoming tutorial series my brother Shagster's working on. Funny stuff, there's even an animated bit in there I helped with! Well, I drew his likeness, he did the animation... still... check it! :)

Tired...

My excuse for no Shrub Monkey to Girlamatic this week.
Definetly starting to feel like butter scraped over too much bread, here.

Cinderella

The colour job was a disaster, she looks like a giant marshmallow with hooker make up, but I like the drawin' so I'm keepin' it.

Sleeping Beauty

Just a sketch I fancied up. Drew this on the train back from work today. *zzzz*

Shrub Monkeys #38

Okay, maybe "traction" is too strong a word. But MAN do I love that wii, it's so fun!

Our list of damage so far totals thus:

Shagster: smacked the ceiling fan, knocked a glass of water all over the coffee table and a phone.

kt (me): broke a lamp, smacked my boyfriend on the wrist... hard, and massive aches and pains all over my body from playing wii sports with no prior or post stretchings.

I can't wait to play again! :)

Playing with trias

Okaaay, I'm not extatic with the way this turned out (and the scan isn't fantastic) but I believe no piece is a failure as long as you learn from it. What I've learned: tria on top of blue pencil = NOT good. I'd hoped it'd cover up the parts I couldn't quite erase, instead it gave the picture a dirty look. Secondly... I have nooo clue how to work lighting and tone on skin. So I think I'll be focusing on that for the next little while.
After using photoshop for so long, it was a bit frenzied (but also fun!) working with trias again, as there's no undue button and I have to work fast if I want colours to blend.

A note about the subject matter: This is Mian Toris from the manga Caravan Kid, which was one of the first manga graphic novel's I've read, along side the Adam Warren Dirty Pair books. I'm on a huge nastolgia trip here folks, so bear with me as my various colour and medium dapplings will all star anime/manga, cartoon and comic heroines from my past. (If I have no clue for subject I default to pinups)

... I don't know why there's a huge green jelly bean chasing her... that's just life, I guess.

mmm.. sacraligious...

I explored Niagra over the winter break with five of my favouritest people on the planet, and look what we found in one of the town's Christmas stores: A smores nativity set!!!! Who'da thunk!? (You can't really tell in the picture, but baby Jesus is smiling)

Commission:Fire Emblem

This is a commission I did of the two main characters from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, for a very nice and patient guy named Tom. This was painted in photoshop (my standard medium) and I'm quite pleased with the way the sky turned out!
